Salvatore Todaro: Lieutenant Commander (Capitano
di Corvetta) (born: September 16, 1908 in Messina / died
in action: December 14, 1942 - off North Africa) Naval Academy Livorno 1923-1927 Promoted 2nd Lieutenant in 1928 duty aboard surface units and submarines 1936 - work with 146th Seaplane Squadron 1937 - change to submarine service 1940 - promoted Lieutenant Commander
(Capitano di Corvetta) 1940 - took command of the submarine LUCIANO MANARA 1940 - took command of the submarine CAPPELLINI,
based at Betasom submarine base, Bordeaux, France 1940/41 - several Atlantic deployments 1941/42 - participated in military actions in
the Black Sea 1942 - Todaro took command of the armed
Trawler CEFALO assigned at the base on Galite Islands (Tunisia) December 13, 1942 - after returning from a
night mission in the port of Bona (now Annaba, Algeria) the CEFALO was
attacked by a British Spitfire aircraft. During this attack Salvatore Todaro
