P-725 FS L'Adroit wass a patrol vessel designed by the French
company DCNS for maritime protection missions. She was originally
part of the Gowind family of corvettes and patrol vessels but the
less military members of the have been moved into the Kership
consortium. The design was self-funded by DCNS without an initial
customer, and was initially leased to the French Navy as L'Adroit
before being sold to the Argentine Navy in November 2018. L'Adroit has a 360° panoramic bridge and an integrated mast. The minimal superstructure of the ship leaves a substantial space available for air operations (helicopters, UAVs) and for launch and recovery of surface assets (RHIBs or USVs). The ship's missions are managed by a combat system, which supplies essential detailed information on the ship’s environment, acquired by various detectors, deployed sensors and other ships integrated into the surveillance network. The mission system can also include a maritime surveillance system capable of detecting suspicious course profiles automatically. The vessel is capable of a variety of missions usually associated with offshore patrol of economic zones. Placed at the disposal of the French Navy by DCNS for a period of three years, L'Adroit sailed from her home base on France's Mediterranean coast in May 2012 to conduct her first fishery policing and maritime security mission, including deployment for Operation Thon Rouge, monitoring fishing vessels with red tuna quotas for 2012. From January 17 to July 11, 2013, the ship carried out its first long-term mission. Departing from Toulon, it reached Somali waters, notably via the Suez Canal. Its crew was thus able to validate the use of its unmanned Camcopter S-100 helicopter. During this mission, he joined Task Force 150. The French sailors also validated the use of the Zodiac ZH935 light craft, the successor to the famous ETRACO. In March 2015, the L'Adroit took part in the Atalanta mission in the Indian Ocean. On April 5, 2015, she evacuated 63 people from Yemen and transferred them to Dixsmude bound for Djibouti, following the conflict in Yemen. On April 6, 2015, she escorted two dhows filled with Djiboutian refugees fleeing Yemen. The assignment by DCNS was to end in September 2014 but was extended until summer 2015, then until summer 2016 and again until summer 2017. The extension continued again in 2018 but on April 6, 2018, the French Minister of Foreign Affairs - Yves Le Drian announces that Argentina will acquire 4 Gowind class OPV 90 corvettes, three to be built in Lorient, the fourth being L'Adroit. The ship was returned to Naval Group on August 31, 2018. |
