The La Confiance class or Patrouilleurs Antilles Guyane (PAG) patrol
vessels is a class of OPV's developed and produced by Socarenam for
the French Navy. The first of three ships of this class,
commissioned in 2017, was named in memory of La Confiance, a small
corvette commanded by Robert Surcouf. The Direction générale de l'Armement (DGA - General Directorate of Armaments) ordered from Socarenam, in 2015, two Guyanese light patrol boats, as well as six years of initial support for each vessel, to replace the P400 La Gracieuse and La Capricieuse based in Guyana. The amount of the contract is €17 million per unit, €24 million including study costs and maintenance. Their main task will be to monitor the fishing areas and the Guyanese coasts during the launches of the Ariane rocket. Their versatility will also make them capable of carrying out counter-narcotics missions, thanks to their two fast boats and their ability to carry additional personnel (special forces). In September 2017, a third unit - optional in the contract initially notified, for an amount of €23.012 million - was ordered for delivery in 2019 following the consequences of hurricane Irma in the French West Indies and the observation of a lack of State maritime resources in this region. The patrol boats were built by Socarenam in its Saint-Malo shipyards for the assembly of their hulls, then towed to the company's site in Boulogne-sur-Mer for their completion, installation of the navigation and their artillery. In addition to its crew of twenty-four sailors, they can embark fourteen additional people. Their autonomy in operation is a dozen days at sea. They have two fast 7-meter boats (RHIB's) provided for interventions. One is launched from the rear ramp of the ship, the other from the davit. The patrollers are armed with a NEXTER Narwhal 20 mm teleoperated cannon as well as two machine guns: a 12.7 mm and a 7.62 mm. source: wikipedia (machine translated) |
