Decatur - class Guided Missile Destroyer

(converted Forrest Sherman class DD’s)

Decatur class guided missile destroyer DDG ex Forrest Sherman

Four of the Forrest Sherman class destroyers were converted to guided missile destroyers.

The fixed torpedo tubes were replaced by two Mk-32 triple torpedo tubes (12.75 inch / 324mm) , to fire Mk-46 torpedos.

The ships were fitted with a Mk-16 octuple ASROC launcher instead of the Mk-42 gun mount amidships and

one Mk-13 single-arm missile launcher was installed instead of the aft Mk-42 gun.
