Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 41 (HSM-41) is one of the two
Fleet Replacement Squadron dedicated to training new MH-60R pilots
and aircrew. Commissioned on January 21, 1983, as Helicopter
Anti-Submarine Light 41 (HSL-41) it was the Navy’s first Light
Airborne Multi-Purpose System (LAMPS) MK III squadron and flew the
Sikorsky SH-60B helicopter. HSL-41 trained pilots and aircrew for
the west coast HSL squadrons in San Diego, Hawaii, and Japan. On December 8th, 2006, the squadron changed its name from Helicopter Anti-Submarine Squadron Light 41 to Helicopter Maritime Strike Squadron 41. HSM-41 assisted with the transitions of most HSL squadrons to the HSM community. Recently the squadron facilitated the transitions of HSM-37, HSM-51, HSM-73 and HSM-49. In addition the command has contributed to the stand-up of HSM-78, HSM-35 and is assisting with HSM-79. Quality initial and follow-on training is the hallmark of HSM 41. The squadron was awarded Meritorious Unit Commendations in 1985, 1988, 1991 and 2002. The command has also been awarded the CDR Ellyson Aviator Production Excellence Award in 2011, 2013 and 2014 as well as the 2014 CNO Aviation Safety Award. HSM 41 has flown more than 200,000 Class A Mishap-free flight hours while training more than 4000 Fleet Replacement Pilots and Aircrew for service in SH-60B/MH-60R fleet squadrons. |
